About Us

Woodend Primary School is an R-7 state school, which provides education for about 640 students from ages 5 - 13 year old.

We are located in the Woodend Estate area of Sheidow Park in the southern suburbs of Adelaide.

At Woodend Primary School we love our learners to participate actively in their learning.  We strive to create balance between strong development of students’ personal and social capabilities and strong progress in academic achievements.  Our Vision for our learners is strongly reflected in our actions.

We highly value collaborative partnerships between staff, students and parents. Family engagement in learning is a priority.

We have a number of special programs that exist to provide additional rich opportunities for our students to build powerful learning connections.

We have a sister school relationship with Myojo Gakuen in Tokyo.  Since 2006, staff and students from Myojo have participated in annual study tours hosted by Woodend families and staff.  Since 2012 Woodend students have participated in biennial study tours to Myojo. We have two specialist teachers of Japanese language and culture who create a high quality program.  Many of our students continue with Japanese language studies in secondary school.

Woodend is a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden School. Our kitchen and garden specialists work with Years 3-5 classes to provide a strong focus on fresh seasonal food, sustainable practices, creativity and pleasurable food experiences. We love this program and our many volunteers are also passionate about it.

Woodend has a special Jump Rope demonstration team that visits schools around the state, a Pedal Prix team, a strong specialist PE program and many sports teams coached by parents.

We love performing at Woodend.  Our students have opportunities to perform at assemblies, music night, the Annual School Community Christmas Event and through have a stimulating Performing Arts program and many opportunities for students to develop specific musical skills through our instrumental music program, choirs and two rock bands.

Design and Technology is another creative specialist area, with two teachers providing design, make and appraise opportunities for students.

We have a strong commitment to working collaboratively.  A buddy system operated across the school with all classes paired up for wonderful cross age experiences throughout the year.  Our parent network allows for a strong parent voice linking parents through education and social networks. Our digital communications, including the newsblog allow for strong and vibrant interactions with all.

We have a strong focus on using digital technology to support powerful learning for our students through:  collaboration, quality improvement through feedback, creativity and innovation.  Our BYOD policy allows students, particularly Yrs 3-7 to bring their own devices.

A key element of our learning improvement at Woodend is developing students’ personal and social capabilities.  As you explore our digital spaces you will see how important it is for us to be working on strategies for students to develop resilience and growth mindsets and to improve executive function such as perseverance and managing impulses.  Our SRC is an example of this.
