Sports Highlights

2012    2013    2014   2015   2016

Soccer at Woodend is played in terms 2&3. We run the sport with an emphasis on participation and fair play in line with the schools “keys to success”.

Woodend compete under and are governed by the policies of Southern Districts Junior Soccer Association (SDJSA). Their home ground is located at Bowker Street North Brighton.

Both boys and girls can enrol to play soccer the year they turn 8 years old (i.e. the child must be turning or turned 8 during the school year.) All sides are non competitive except for under 11 and Senior Primary Knock out carnivals.

Each team has the opportunity to participate in their age carnival held at Bowker Street in term 3. Every child that participates will be awarded a certificate of participation from the District.

Parent volunteers are always needed either on an official capacity (coaches, referees etc) or to assist with the running of our home game BBQs and ground preparation.

TRAINING: Days and times will be set down by the coaches and coordinator at the beginning of the season. We try and work around your child’s other commitments. If your child cannot attend training for any reason please advise the coach or team manager asap. Players with club commitments on school training days can be excused from school training but it is preferred they attend for partial sessions to ensure team bonding if they are able to. If this affects your child please speak with your coach to see what can be arranged.

Games are played on Saturday mornings on a home and away basis.

AWAY GAME TIMES vary dependent on the opposition. These times will be available before season commencement to enable parents to plan in advance.

HOME GAME TIMES may vary due to team numbers but as a general guideline they are as follows:

Under 8: approx 8:00 am kick off

Under 9: approx 8:45 am kick off

Under 10: approx 9:30 am kick off

Under 11: approx: 11:30 am

Senior Primary: approx 10:30 am Kick off

These times are subject to change without notice due to team numbers

Parents are required from the starting teams and finishing teams to help with the erection of the goals. If games start late time will be taken away from the game time to ensure other matches run on time.

EQUIPMENT: All players MUST attend training and games with soccer boots (preferably plastic sprigs) and shin guards.

Players will be allocated a jersey by the school to wear for the season. It is up to the parents to care and maintain this jersey and will be liable for replacement costs for any damage or loss during the year.

Children are to wear navy soccer shorts and socks in line with the schools colours.

No jewellery (including earrings and watches) are permitted to be worn on game days and all long hair is be tied back (no braiding please).

If a player does not have correct protective gear they will not be permitted to play due to safety reasons.

Fees: $40.00 per child (includes SDJSA registration and use of school equipment)

Enrolments and expressions of interest to coach/ manage will begin early Term 1.

School Football is a terrific way for students to learn the basic skills and rules of Football. Teams are divided into years 2 & 3, 4 & 5, and 6 & 7. We play in the South Adelaide Club Zone and the South Adelaide FC organises and runs the competition.

Rules are modified from team to team to cater for the skill level and safety level of the year groups.

Training is held after School, and matches are held every Saturday Morning on a "home and away" basis with local Schools in the South Adelaide Football Club region.

School Footy is played throughout terms two and three.

Older grades will be offered a chance for one or two mini-league games at half time of a Glenelg game, and possibly an AFL match some years.

The Football jumper is supplied by the School; Students will need to supply their own shorts (School Shorts are fine) and Football Boots.

We are always welcoming parents to help as volunteers in all sports, from coaching, administration, setting up, packing up, scoring and down to general crowd control. Please feel free to nominate yourself if you are interested, the more volunteers we have the easier it is for all parents and the more enjoyable it is for the children. The school will generally assist with higher level coaching certificate courses if appropriate.

For more information please contact the School football coordinator Kellie Hower; 0438 747574.

School Cricket is a great opportunity for our students to learn the skills of the game and have great fun with their friends representing Woodend. School Cricket caters for ALL levels, from beginners in Milo and Kanga Cricket to the more experienced players in Years 4/5/6/7.

Our JP students participate within the Milo and Kanga cricket programs run within the Southern Area Schools. Our students from year 4-7 play in the Glenelg Cricket Club Zone and the South Australian Cricket Association organises and runs the competition.

Rules are modified to keep the game flowing, and to keep everyone involved, regardless of skill level.

Kanga Cricket is designed for years 2 and 3, and is a one and a half hour game Saturday Morning match against a neighbourhood School, always played at Reynella Cricket Club. No equipment is required, and the players are required to wear school uniform and a hat.

Older Children are able to play either Thursday night or Saturday Mornings, (for between 2 and 3 hours, depending on age) and are placed into teams based on age and experience. These matches are played on a home and away basis with nearby schools.

With the older grades, the parents will need to purchase Cricket Whites (clothes) and a protector for their child for hygienic reasons. Parents may purchase their child their own cricket equipment if they wish, but the school does have a supply of bats, helmets, pads and protectors all of which must be worn. The balls are modified when compared to "adult" Cricket balls.

Cricket is played in terms one and four and for year 4-7 students they will train once a week after school.
